The GMAT score is calculated by combining the sub-scores scored from the quantitative reasoning section and verbal reasoning section of the GMAT. Each section in GMAT is reported on a scale of 6 to 51 points and the grading of the composite score is scaled between 200 to 800 points. GMAT is an adaptive test and due to that reason, the scores of GMAT are not determined only by the number of questions that have been answered correctly.
When the GMAT score is 700 then it is considered to be good and the chance of getting into top business schools increases, when the GMAT score is above 740 then it is considered to be an excellent score and when the GMAT score is 550+ then it is considered to be average. When the GMAT score is good then it indicates sound intellectual aptitude and academic readiness. Thus, scoring high score on GMAT helps in predicting performance in the first year of business school.
A situation may arise where we want to cancel the GMAT exam score. In that case, it is advised to decide to cancel the score before the exam is taken. After giving the exam, a chance to preview the unofficial score is given. Two minutes will be there either to accept or cancel it. If the decision is not made within two minutes, then the score will automatically be canceled. If the score is accepted then there will be an option to cancel it up to 72 hours after the exam has been completed. The option to cancel may last up to 24 hours based on the location of the test center. After leaving the test center a GMAT fee is charged for cancelling the score. When an option of canceling the score is chosen then: the chance of getting into any school is lost, a printed copy of the unofficial score at the test center is not received, an official score report will not be accessed and the exam will be retaken after 16 calendar days.
The score of the GMAT is valid for five years after the test date. The GMAT score must be taken before applying. In other words, the validity of the GMAT score is five years and it is valid up through the beginning of MBA studies.
The steps to access the GMAT result score are:
The GMAT result score is available to the test taker approximately three weeks after the test has been taken. The official GMAT score report is available on the GMAT website within 7 business days after the exam has been finished and the student can access the report in the mba.com account. It takes almost 20 business days in some cases to get the GMAT total scores.
The result dates for the GMAT exam are not fixed and the users can preview the scores by logging into their MBA account. The results for the GMAT entrance exam are announced around 20 days from the date of examination and on the scorecard, the percentile/scores are mentioned.

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a computer-adaptive test, which means that the difficulty level of the questions you get will depend on your performance on previous questions. The score you receive is based on your performance on the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the test, which are each scored on a scale of 0-60.
The GMAT also includes an Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section, which is scored separately on a scale of 0-6, and an Integrated Reasoning (IR) section, which is scored on a scale of 1-8.
The scores from the Verbal and Quantitative sections are combined to give a total score, which ranges from 200-800. This total score is the primary score that business schools use to evaluate applicants.
It's important to note that the GMAT is designed to compare test-takers to each other, rather than to assess absolute levels of skill or knowledge. This means that your score is based not only on the number of questions you answer correctly but also on the difficulty of those questions and how well other test-takers have performed on them.
