The registration for the IELTS is pretty simple. All you have to do is follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website

The online registration for the IELTS examination is done through the official IDP India website - https://www.ieltsidpindia.com/

Step 2: Select the ‘Register for IELTS’ option

Once you land on the official website, click on the 'Register for IELTS' option, and you’ll be redirected to the next page.

Step 3: Choose your preferences

You must choose the following in this section – 

  1. Your preferred test (computer-delivered/paper-based IELTS for the IELTS/ IELTS for UKVI/ Life Skills)
  2. The test type or module (for IELTS and IELTS UKVI, choose between Academic or General Training, and for Life Skills, choose between A1 and B1)
  3. Your desired test location/city from the options available in India
  4. Your preferred date and time slot for the examination

Step 4: Update your personal information

Once you click on ‘Continue,’ you’ll be redirected to the net step where you must add your personal details such as – 

  • Name
  • Email id
  • Mobile number
  • ID document
  • Date of birth

Step 5: Update your registration details

Registration details include the following – 

  • Location of residence details
  • Nationality
  • Occupation
  • First language

Step 6: Upload Passport details

You must also provide a scan of the first and last pages of your passport where the address is clearly visible.

Step 7: Shortlist the institutes that will receive your reports

You can add up to 5 organizations where you’d like to send your IELTS reports.

Step 8: Check the details before submission

Before you click on the final submission, review the details thoroughly. You won’t be able to make any edits after this.

Step 9: Pay the IELTS test fees

Complete the payment of the IELTS registration fees (INR 16,250) through online payment methods.

Step 10: Download the acknowledgment receipt

Print out a copy of the acknowledgment slip for future reference.

Documents Required For IELTS Exam Registration

The documents required to complete your registration for the IELTS examination are as follows – 

  • Passport
  • National identity card
  • Credit/debit card/banking details

The passport is the MOST IMPORTANT document you must carry on you when registering for the IELTS, whether online or offline. It serves as your identity proof and is a mandatory requirement for registration.

When filling out the registration details, you must present the following – 

  • The first page of your passport
  • The last page of your passport with the address

IDP strictly prevents any student without a valid passport from applying for the IELTS registration process. So, make sure to apply for and obtain your passport before you register for the exam.

IELTS Registration Process

The IELTS registration process can be done online and offline based on a student’s preference and convenience. Let’s take a look at both options.

Online Process

The online process has two methods – 

Method I – Register from your home

When registering from your home, you must visit the official IELTS India website and fill out the registration details. Once complete, you must pay the registration fees online and print out a copy of the confirmation.

You must also courier a photocopy of the first and last pages of your passport along with observation pages (if any) to the Head Office of IDP to be allowed to sit for the exam.

Method II – Register from an IDP branch

Approach the IDP Head Office or the nearest IDP branch and use the computer available at the office to register for the test. You can submit your passport pages and observation pages and sign the Terms and Conditions document on the spot to confirm your seat.

Offline Process

You can also register for the IELTS using two offline methods – 

Method I – Register at any IDP branch or input node

Once you approach an IDP branch or visit the Head Office, you can fill out the application form, submit the required documents, agree to the Terms and Conditions, and pay the test fees by cash, demand draft, or credit/debit/ATM card.

Method II – Register via courier

You can download the softcopy of the IELTS registration form via the official website and fill it out. Attach the photocopies of your passport pages and the demand draft/ICICI deposit slip if you deposit cash to your nearest ICICI branch and send them via courier to the Head Office.

IELTS Exam Slot Booking

The IELTS conducts around 48 examinations throughout the year (approximately 4 each month, depending on the demand). So, you have plenty of opportunities to choose a date that’s convenient for you. To confirm your exam slot, you must pay the registration fees of INR 16,250 via your credit/debit/ATM card, cash, or demand draft.

The exam registration fees for the IELTS depend on the type of exam you wish to appear in. 

  • Fees for computer-delivered IELTS – INR 16,250
  • Fees for paper-based IELTS – INR 16,250
  • Fees for IELTS for UKVI – INR 16,500
  • Fees for Life Skills – INR 15,350

You can complete the payment process using credit/debit/ATM cards, deport cash at your nearest ICICI branch and submit the ICICI deposit receipt, or attach a demand draft or cheque with your application. The fees are subject to change depending on the currency rate. 

Important Things to Remember at IELTS Registration

When registering for the IELTS, some important points to keep in mind are – 

  1. You must be above 16 years of age to appear for the IELTS.
  2. You must have a valid passport to register.
  3. The name, age, address, and other personal details provided while registering must match the information on the passport.
  4. You must carry the passport you used during registration for the exam.
  5. You must have your credit/debit card and its details in front of you when registering.

How to Cancel IELTS Registration?

If you wish to cancel your IELTS registration, you must notify the test center where you booked the test. 

According to the refund policy, you will receive the full refund, excluding the administration cost, if you cancel your registration more than five weeks prior to the test.

If you have a serious medical emergency due to which you have to cancel your registration within five weeks, you'll receive a full refund. Otherwise, you must forfeit the entire fee.

If you provide a medical certificate to cancel your registration within five days of the exam date, you will receive a full refund, excluding the local administrative fees.
